Moorhead Native Makes it to the Next Level

An extremely small percentage of high school athletes make it to the collegiate level. An even smaller number get the opportunity to compete at the division one level.

Despite the odds, Olivia Watson, out of Moorhead, now plays division one soccer at North Dakota State University.

“My proudest accomplishment is being a division one soccer player here at NDSU,” Watson said, “Playing division one soccer has been a dream of mine since I started playing the sport over ten years ago.”

Getting to the next level is no easy task, as it takes years of hard work and dedication. Watson began playing soccer at a very young age, and grew to love the game as she got older.

“I am very proud to be able to look back and see all I have accomplished as a player and that I have reached one of my biggest goals.” Watson said.

Watson is currently in her second season with the bison and is enjoying every step of the ride. Even though being a student athlete at the division one level can be difficult at times, Watson is thankful to be where she is.

“Many people wish they could play their sport in college so I will never take any of it for granted. I was lucky enough to be given this opportunity and am very grateful for it all.” Said Watson.

While it is a big accomplishment getting to this level, Watson continues to set goals for the future so she can have a successful career.

  1. 1. You're on the right track with your headline, but make it a tad shorter. Shoot for 5 words. I would suggest "NDSU Soccer Player Fulfills Dream" or something similar.
    2. Even though this a story about her experience with Soccer, make sure to include her major.
    3. . after said. When quotes are split up like that you, want to put a . instead of a comma after (insert name here) said. (Line 4)
    4. Should be 10 instead of ten. AP Style. (Line 5)
    5. , after goals (L9)
    6. Strong quotes from Olivia!
You did a really good job on Newswriting 5 Josie! I was impressed with your writing.
