Activity 1

When I first read the story I was kind of surprised by how random it seemed. This story is unique and kind of strange, so it did not feel the same as if I were reading about politics or a sports event. I think this story could have been improved with more information. The writer did not interview the clerk, which could have added to the story. The story really does not provide much information, which leaves me with questions. I would have liked to know more about why the man went into the store with a gun, and also hear from the clerk. Even though the story could have been better, I think it was short and right to the point, which is something a lot of readers look for. The author did a good job of giving the information in a way that was easy to understand.

Moorhead Native Makes it to the Next Level An extremely small percentage of high school athletes make it to the collegiate level. An even smaller number get the opportunity to compete at the division one level.  Despite the odds, Olivia Watson, out of Moorhead, now plays division one soccer at North Dakota State University.  “My proudest accomplishment is being a division one soccer player here at NDSU,” Watson said, “Playing division one soccer has been a dream of mine since I started playing the sport over ten years ago.” Getting to the next level is no easy task, as it takes years of hard work and dedication. Watson began playing soccer at a very young age, and grew to love the game as she got older.  “I am very proud to be able to look back and see all I have accomplished as a player and that I have reached one of my biggest goals.” Watson said.  Watson is currently in her second season with the bison and is enjoying every step of the ride. Assignment 3

Minnesota Native Has Impressive Senior Volleyball Season In her senior season at Pequot Lakes High School, Camille Human’s volleyball team saw great success. Her career ended just short of making it to state, as the team lost to the eventual state champions.  “It was a team we had lost to earlier in the season in three games, and then when we played them to go to state it was five games,” Human said, “The last game we lost by two points. The team we lost to ended up winning the state tournament, so that’s hard.” Even though her team fell short of the ultimate goal, Human walked away from volleyball with individual accolades and left a stamp on her school’s history.  “I got an all-conference award and also academic all-state. I also got on the school leaderboard for most blocks in a single match.” After completing high school, Human decided to pursue her higher education at North Dakota State University. She is currently a freshman at the school in Fargo.  While Hum...

Taylor Twellman is a journalist that I like to follow because he is known to give heated and passionate reports of what is going on in the soccer world. I remember watching his video after the United States men’s team failed to qualify for the world cup, which went viral due to the energy and emotions he showed. He grew up playing soccer and eventually reached the professional level, where he played for the United States men’s national team, along with club teams in the MLS. He was born in 1980 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, which is another cool fact because that is where I am from as well. I think the type of reporting Twellman does is unique and exciting to watch, because he cares greatly about soccer and inspires others to do the same. People who follow Twellman can count on breaking news, inside access, and reliable stories. He has been around the game for a long time and has many connections. He has a good following on Twitter, while also making appearances on ESPN...

Assignment 1

Josie Fieldman is a current sophomore at North Dakota State University. She was born and raised in Minnetonka, Minnesota, where she grew up playing a variety of sports. While she enjoyed basketball, baseball, and golf, soccer was her clear favorite. Her love for the game brought her to Fargo, where she is continuing to play soccer and receiving a college education. Growing up around sports inspired Fieldman to pursue a career in the field, as she is currently on course to finish a sports management degree by 2025. After finishing the  undergraduate degree she has thought about the possibility of going back to school to receive a higher level of education. There have been no decisions made, though, as it is three years away.       Working well with others, determination, and leadership skills are some of Fieldman's biggest strengths. Any job in a sports organization would be the dream job for the soccer player from Minnesota. Working in the MLS...
